The Bolivian Mission

The Bolivian Mission began in 1998.  The purpose of the mission is to share the good news of the Gospel.  This is done through meeting the needs of medical care, shelter, clothing, and food.  Bolivia and Haiti are  the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere.  Our work in the name of our Lord and Savior is focused in the area of Montero, Bolivia.  Medical mission teams have conducted medical clinics, laboratory work, and dental clinics.  Medical equipment has been acquired and installed.  Instruction and training are accomplished in each area so the work continues after the Medical Mission teams leave.  Construction Mission projects have included work at the Girl's Orphanage and the construction of a Boy's Foster Home (Albergue).  Parents who can no longer provide the basic necessities for their children leave them abandoned in the orphanages or streets.  There are over 200 girls in two orphanages.  The boy's foster home will be ready to accept 25 in 2003.  Until now, the boys have been abandoned on the streets.  The Mission Team members collect clothes throughout the year to give them to those in need.  The year 2002 was the first year the Bolivian Mission team undertook the challenge to feed the poor.  In eight days 18,000 meals were served and over 250 people committed their life to Christ.  The focus of the week was John 6:35 which says:  Then Jesus declared. "I am the bread of life.  He comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty."

The 2004 Mission Trip

Sixteen members of the Highlands United Methodist Church joined other members of the Highlands community for the first week of the 2004 Bolivian Mission Trip.  We thank God for the success of all of their projects.

The 2003 Mission Trip

The 2003 Bolivian mission returned to Highlands having completed or exceeded all of the goals that had been set for the trip.  So many thing happened that it would be impossible to tell here, but the team worked 12 to 14 hours a day without fatigue in heat that approached 100 degrees. This could not have been done without your prayers. The hand of God could really be seen working with our group, bringing the right people to us for us to help and them to help us.
