The Church

The Methodists constructed the town's first church building within a decade of the establishment of Highlands in 1875.  During the following 120 years the church continued to grow.  Today the  Highlands United Methodist Church provides opportunities for worship, service, and fellowship for all who would enter its doors.

The links below allow you to enter the Highlands United Methodist Church to experience the church in worship, in service, and in fellowship.  If you would like more information about Highlands Methodist or want to speak with one of our pastors, you can contact the church by telephone at (828) 526-3376 or by electronic mail at humc@dnet.net.

In Worship

We worship in many ways: in Church on Sunday Mornings, in Sunday School classes, through the Music program, and through our learning activities: participation in the Duke Summer Intern program and Small Group Studies. This link enables you to see the many ways that the Highlands United Methodist Church participates in Worship.

In Service

The church provides our entire membership with opportunities to reach out from our doorstep to those in need locally (the Highlands School and the Food Pantry) as well as globally (support for missionary families and our Bolivian Mission).  This link enables you to observe our youth and adults at work in our various mission activities.

In Fellowship

The church provides opportunities to become involved in small groups that encourage fellowship and spiritual growth in a casual yet intimate atmosphere.  This link enables you to see what small group activities are available, when the meet, and how to become involved in this ministry.

Membership

You are invited to become a member of our church family.  Orientation classes for new members are held as needed and culminate in a service of confirmation during worship.  Orientation classes focus on how you can best use your gifts and talents in the ministry of the church and give you the opportunity to become better acquainted with the Highlands United Methodist Church and its staff.
