Sunday Services

"Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth.
    Worship the Lord with gladness;
    come into his presence with singing."   Psalm 100:1-2  NRSV.

The Psalmist knew that worship involved more than attending a weekly service.  The prophet Micah described this kind of worship as a daily "humble walk with God."

"He has told you, O mortal, what is good;

and what does the Lord require of you

but to do justice, and to love kindness,

and to walk humbly with your God?"   Micah 6:6-8  NRSV.

The Order of Worship

The United Methodist Hymnal outlines the basic order for proclaiming God's Word based on biblical, theological, and historical patterns of worship.  Each Sunday's Order of Worship is outlined in the bulletin for that particular service.

The Word Proclaimed

John Wesley provided four tests for us to use when we listen to and consider the meaning of the spoken word:  Is it disclosed in Scripture?  Is it illuminated by tradition?  Is is realized by experience?  Is it confirmed by reason?  We understand that worship demands our active participation therefore the links below provide us with the opportunity to reflect on the sermon and to order tapes of the sermons we've particularly enjoyed.

For Further Reflection provides an opportunity for personal reflection on the sermons delivered during the past two months.  Each title links to the Scripture and provides study points and questions related to a particular sermon.

Order a Sermon provides the ability to order specific sermon tapes.  Tapes are available for each of the sermons preached at the Highlands United Methodist Church.

After the service:

We leave the church building to take our living faith into the world.
We are sent to minister to a waiting world with the Lord's blessing.
