History

Each of us has a story.  This is also true of our institutions.  Collectively, we refer to these stories as history.  Many feel daunted by history, yet we are all authors of chapters in this continuing saga.  We are products of the past, participants in the present, and architects of the future.  Since

". . . we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses. . . "    Hebrews 12:1  NRSV.

we must ensure that our deeds not only reflect the faith of our fathers but conform to the images of the church given to us by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Our Past

There were Methodists living on the Highlands plateau for more than a decade before the town of Highlands was established in March 1875.  Within a decade the Methodists were constructing the town's first church building.  During the ensuing century, the church continued to grow in order to provide expanded opportunities for worship, service, and fellowship.  We invite you to follow the link above to read the story of the establishment of the Highlands United Methodist Church.

Our Present

The beginning of the Highlands United Methodist Church's second century has been a period of growth and change.  We invite you to follow the link above to learn about the People of God who are the United Methodist Church located at 315 Main Street in Highlands, North Carolina.

Our Future

The future of the Church is in God's hands.  However, as faithful stewards of the heritage that God has given us, we believe we must plan for the legacy we will leave to those who will follow in our footsteps.  We invite you to follow the link above to review our Long-Range Plan and our Master Site Plan.
