Worship...

We worship when we place our praises, our confessions, and our prayers before God.  We worship when we participate in the singing of hymns.  We worship when we listen to and consider the meaning of the spoken word.  Worship demands active participation, not only during the service, but also after we leave the church building and take our living faith out into the world.

Children in pre-kindergarten through 2nd grade are invited to participate in Children's Worship.  This is an opportunity to learn more about the elements of worship (creeds, prayers, music, sacraments, etc.) and to have a more active worship experience.   Following the Children's Sermon, children leave the service with Ms. Tillie Arwood and parents can pick them up downstairs once worship is finished.  Children are also invited to participate in a Sunday School class, and participate in the Children's Activities Program on Wednesday nights.

Learning More

We invite you to join us in worship and fellowship.  While nothing replaces personally participating in the community of faith that is the Highlands United Methodist Church, you can follow the links below to experience, in a small way, worship at the Highlands United Methodist Church.

Worship Services

The central part of worship is the the Sunday Service.  This link will help you to understand the importance of the service and how you can participate as well as provide you the opportunity to order sermon tapes and to further reflect on the content and meaning of the message.

Sunday School

Sunday School classes are available for participants of all ages and everyone is invited to attend.  This link enables you to review the opportunities for learning, developing a stronger faith, and sharing that faith within our families, with our community, and throughout the world.

Music Program

The Methodists have always been a "singing people" and music has been and continues to be a vital and distinctive component of the Methodist worship experience.  This link enables you to examine the opportunities for worship provided by the music program.

Duke Summer Intern

The Duke Summer Intern program enables interns experience ministry in a local church and the congregation to have the privilege of helping the Intern find his/her place in ministry.  This link enables you to review our past and present participation in the Duke Summer Intern program.

Small Groups

Opportunities for short and long-term small group studies are provided for participants of all ages throughout the week.  This link enables you to examine which short term small group studies are currently available and which small groups operate on a continuous basis.
